You will redecorate internally and externally a number of care homes within a region. The work will be generally on a planned/project basis rather than be reactive. Your care homes will generally be within one hour’s travel of your regional base enabling daily commute.
You will use paint, varnishes and wallpaper supplied through the Property Helpdesk to decorate homes inside and outside following the Regional Director’s instructions. Colour, finishing texture and wallpaper patterns will be finalised by the Regional Director but will be selected from a pre-agreed set of choices.
You will be generally working alone and as such you will be responsible for ensuring you work in a way that is safe for yourself and others. You will follow the company Mobile Decorator Policy and complete a Risk Assessment /Method Statement for each project which will include aspects such as:
Hygiene and COSHH
Dust and Flying Particles
Power and Hand Tools
Working at Heights
Safety in Confined Spaces
Where the Risk Assessment, or HSE regulation, indicates that lone working is not suitable then assistance will be provided.
Your main tasks would include:
Planning the project (what, when, where, who and how)with the Regional Director, Home Manager and Regional Facilities Manager
Measuring surface areas to work out how much paint or wall covering is needed
Ordering the correct quantities of materials and consumables from the Care UK Property Helpdesk
Erecting safety barriers and signage to prevent unauthorised access to the work area
Preparing surfaces including striping, filling, smoothing and levelling
Masking and protecting areas to prevent paint going onto unwanted areas
Operating, cleaning and maintaining all painting equipment, including brushes, rollers, trays etc.
Priming, sanding, sealing paint surfaces
Applying layers of paint and hanging wallpaper
Tidying up after finishing a job
You will be responsible for maintaining a store of materials and decorating equipment at each home, ensuring that after each project any spare paint and wallpaper is available for touching up and repairs
Specifics and hours
40 hours per week; nominally 8am – 5pm with an hour for lunch although flexitime is available, at the Regional Directors discretion, and managed through an electronic clocking on/off system. Overtime may be available when required
Travel from home to home is expected outside these hours unless the project is more than 1 hour’s travel from the employee’s regional base care home. In this case the travel time beyond 1 hour will be included in the 40 hours
Travel allowance: 40p/mile for first 10,000 miles and then 25p/mile (There is no requirement to transport materials or decorating equipment and as such transport will not be provided).
Minimum 5 years minimum experience of all aspects of painting and decorating in a domestic or office environment
Current CSCS card (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme) including CITB Health, Safety and Environment test
- Working to a high standard
- Working under their own direction with minimum supervision
- Undertaking Risk Assessments and implementing safe working practices
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- A pro-active approach
- Adaptable to changing requirements.
- Physically fit to cope with specific needs of role
- Approachable and able to build positive relationships with other members of staff and residents
- Full driving licence + car insured for a travel to a variety of business locations
- Clear the DBS check
- Relevant qualifications in addition to CSCS
- Experience of working a care environment
